A working checklist, not a gear-shop wish list. Our guides carry a version of this on every departure — see the full story behind it in the Trail Journal.
Non-negotiable
- Down jacket rated at least 10°C colder than the forecast low
- Trekking poles, from day one — not just “if my knees need it”
- A water bladder or bottle that won’t crack if it half-freezes overnight
- Broken-in trekking boots — never a pair you haven’t walked 20+ km in already
Layers
- Moisture-wicking base layers (top and bottom) — 2-3 sets
- A insulating mid-layer (fleece or light down)
- A waterproof, windproof outer shell
- Trekking trousers, quick-drying, plus one warm pair for evenings
- Sun hat, warm hat, and gloves rated for below-freezing
Health & documents
- Personal first-aid kit, including any prescription medication (bring more than you think you’ll need)
- Diamox, if your doctor has cleared you to carry it for altitude
- Travel insurance documents with rescue/evacuation cover — see our travel insurance page
- Passport, permit photocopies, and passport photos for permit paperwork
We send a full, trek-specific packing list once you book — this page is the version that applies to almost every route, not a substitute for that one.
